If you haven't seen our post on Mega Stampin Studio today, you will definitely want to check it out. We couldn't stop at one project for Earth Day so we made these fun mini notebooks using soda cans on our covers. We saw this project in one of the Simply Handmade magazines!
Here are the step-by-step instructions for making this fun little notebooks. Read all the way to the end to see the "mini" Grape Soda notebook......so cute!!!!
First, gather your supplies: copy paper, soda cans, binding system, chipboard
Next, you will need to cut the top and bottom off the empty soda can. We used a knife to poke a hole along the edge and then finish cutting around the can with scissors. Then using a paper cutter, create straight edges.
We chose to glue our soda can to a piece of chipboard giving it a little more stability
After, gluing your cover together, you can create the inside pages. We used regular printer paper and cut them to fit - just an 1/8" smaller than the cover and back. We used the Bind It All to add our spiral binding.
After you cut and punch your pages, you are ready to put your book together. Cut your spiral wire binding to fit whatever size you made your notebook. (Ours is 3-1/2" x 3-1/4")
There you go! As easy as that! These would be fun to create for all your friends using their favorite drink. You could also die cut flowers from scrap soda cans and add to these notebooks.
Now look at these...aren't they the cutest mini notebooks you have ever seen!!!!!
If you'll notice on these, we turned one of them to flip open from the top and the other from the side.
We hope you have enjoyed our re-purposed projects and go celebrate Earth Day.

These are really cute, but what about the edges?

Could you use a thin strip of duct tape or electrical tape to cover the edges? Don't know how well it would hold up but it would help protect the edges. I'm going to try scoring and folding 1/8 inch of the edge to the back side and then attach it to the chip board - I'll post and let you know if it creates an edge that is too thick. Thanks for the idea it's super cute!

Couldn't you cut the can/cover slightly larger than the chipboard and fold it over the edge? That way it's smooth on the edges?
