Rolled Rose Birthday Card!!

I had a lot of birthday and anniversary cards I had to make this month.  Here is the birthday card I made for my friend, Marilyn.

 

I used the 1-1/2" circle punch to make these small rolled flowers/roses.  Below is a close-up of the flowers.   You can see I added small pearls to the centers.  If you haven't made these rolled flowers before, be sure to check out this Freebie Friday tutorial.  It is made just like the center of the rose so scroll through the steps.

 

Here are the supplies I used:  Pear Pizzazz, Concord Crush, black and white card stock; SU! Watercolor Trio stamp set, 1-1/2" circle punch, black and white gingham ribbon, small pearls, paper piercer, and Eyelet border punch

Melissa's birthday was a week ago so, of course, I had to make her a card:)  After all, isn't that why we love this craft and how we justify all the supplies we buy!!!!   Here is the card I made for her!

Freebie Friday - Nugget & Lip Balm holder

If you will recall, we have made these little "holders" for many occasions and reasons.  They are a great quick and simple party favor, place setting treat, school treat.....you get the idea! 

 
So, today we are going to show you how to create these fun little candy holders and provide links back to the lip balm recipe. 

First, gather your supplies......you will need:  card stock, ribbon, punches, stamps. sentiments

Cut a piece of Night of Navy card stock 1-1/2" x 5".  Score it at  2" and 3".  We also cut 2 pieces of vanilla card stock (for layering) 1-3/8" x 1-3/4".

 
Then using a punch or scissors, cut off all four corners on the holder as well as the two top corners on each of the layer pieces.

 
Depending on how you are decorating your layer piece, either stamp and embellish it or, as we did, glue it to both sides of the holder.  Using a 1/4" hole punch (the size will depend on the size of your ribbon or closure) punch through both sides of the holder at the same time.  This way, they will align perfectly.

 
Once you have done this, you just need to tie your ribbon - we used patriotic twill ribbon - 6".  We then added punched stars in coordinating colors - one glued flat the other popped up.  We also stamped a medium jewelry tag with "for you" from the SU! Teeny Tiny Wishes set and tied it on with linen thread. 
We sponged everything with Creamy Caramel.  If you want to slide a nugget inside, we covered the candy with a 1"x3" piece of coordinating patterned paper.  These also hold small lip gloss pots.  How fun for a girl's slumber party.

Another Pedestal Pillow Box

Remember when we shared with you the masculine pedestal pillow box that looked like a shirt and tie?

Well, here's another example that was created by Diane using Cosmo Cricket paper and flowers!  We love the flower on this box....lots of dimension as each layer has been "painted" with a thin coat of Crystal Effects.

 
This pedestal pillow box is perfect for any age or gender and holds a small gift, gift card, party favors....it is very versatile.  We have shared a birthday, a masculine and this adorable flower samples.  Hopefully this gives you a few ideas of your own!

Happy 50th Anniversary Card

Today I thought I would share the 50th anniversary card I made for the BIG celebration this last weekend.  A very dear friend and her husband had an incredible celebration.  We all had a great time at the party.  I MAY share some pictures later (once I look them over) from the costume party.

 

This card was done with the Stampin' Up! Big Shot die, Fun Flowers, from the last Occasions Mini Catalog.  I really love the flowers on this die.  I made Melissa's birthday card with this same die and I'm sure she will be sharing that card soon.  The "50" was made with a Cuttlebug alphabet set.

 
The card is made with Black, Shimmer White and Brushed Gold card stock.  It was embellished with some black lace.  The flowers were embossed with a polka dot embossing folder.  The "Happy Anniversary" sentiment came from the Something to Celebrate hostess set.  I did create a pocket on the inside to hold a gift card!

Freebie Friday - Top Note Seed Packet

 
This quick and easy project is great for many things.  This week we have added a fun seed packet but a gift card fits perfect and a small candy bar or Ghiradelli square would be a great treat as well.

 

To create this project you will need the following supplies:  card stock, patterned paper, SU! Top Note die, jumbo eyelet, Crop-a-Dile, circle punches, button, linen thread and ribbon.

 
First, cut two Top Note die cuts from Early Espresso and one from a patterned paper.  We used My Mind's Eye Lime Twist.  On one of the Early Espresso die cuts, add a jumbo eyelet to the top left corner and string with ribbon or linen thread as we have.

 
Next, create your circle flower embellishment.   We used a 1-1/2" circle of Early Espresso, 1-3/8" and 1-1/4" circles of My Mind's Eye Lime Twist patterned paper.  We crumpled them slightly for added dimension.

 
After you create the circle flower pieces, glue them together in the middle only and add a threaded brown button to the center.  We created a bow with the linen thread but you could always just tie a knot.

 
Next, if you cut full size Top Note die cuts, you will need to cut them in half - one will be in Early Espresso and the other in your Lime Twist patterned paper.  You will cut off the perforated section on the patterned paper piece to create your layer. Glue them together.

 
Next add a piece of Early Espresso grosgrain ribbon across the center and add a small tied piece.  Add your circle flower embellishment.

 
Now you will add a small amount of glue around the very outside curved edges of this half piece.  DO NOT add glue across the top otherwise you will not have a pocket.  Add to your full top note piece.

And there you go!  Insert your treat - in our case, seeds.  What an easy and quick favor.  Start making these now for your Christmas gift cards and hang them from your tree!!

Freebie Friday - Paper Rose Tutorial

As promised, here is the tutorial that shows you how to make that beautiful rose Gayla put on Diane's birthday card! We've done this one in Blushing Bride card stock from Stampin' Up!

 

First, gather your supplies:  You will need card stock and the following punches - the Two-step Owl punch, 2-3/8" Scallop Circle, and 1-1/4" circle punch; a bone folder, scissors and adhesive.

 

To get started, punch 8 owl bodies and cut off the feet.

 

Next, you will cut a 1/2" slit between the "ears."

 

Now, take your bone folder and slightly curl the other end (opposite of your cut).   This starts to form your petals.

 

Add a small amount of adhesive (we used Tombow) to one side of the slit.

 

Take the other side of the slit and slide it over the adhesive bringing the two "ears" closer together and forming a slight "cup."  Do this to all eight owl bodies.

 

Now you are ready to start forming your rose.  Take the 1-1/4" circle (this is the base) and add some adhesive.  Attach five of the owl bodies around the circle.  How close or far apart you place these will determine how tight or loose your final rose will be.

 

Here is what your first row of petals should look like when all five have been attached,

 

Add the second row using the last three petals.  You can use  your bone folder to re-curl your petals once the glue has dried.

 

Next you will take the 2-3/8" scallop circle and spiral cut it all the way to the middle.

 

Here is what it should like.  You can crumple the paper a little to make it more flexible if you so choose.

 

Now, starting with the outside, start rolling the spiral.  You can decide how tight or loose to make the roll.  Do this all the way to the center.

 

Now you can see that we are almost finished.  Add adhesive to the very center piece and glue the rolled flower to this piece to hold your flower together.

 

Place a small amount of glue in the center of your petals and add this rolled center piece; shape and curl your petals if needed.

 

There you have it!  A beautiful rose to use on a card, gift tag, package or how about a magnet or pin!

Tool Time!!

With Father's Day a little over a week away, we thought we would showcase another masculine card idea. Many of you are always looking for another "guy" idea as they seem to be a little tougher to come by.  This "tool" card inspiration came from a magazine idea from 5-6 years ago.

 
The card is made with Marina Mist, black and white card stock; foil, circle punches, Modern Label and Word Window punch, silver brads, Cuttlebug embossing folder, Top Note die, SU! Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set.

We glued regular aluminum foil to a piece of white card stock, used the Top Note die and then ran the Top Note shape through the Big Shot with a Cuttlebug folder that looks similar washers.  We thought this was a fun background for our wrenches.  You wouldn't have to glue the foil to card stock as the foil will "hold" shape from the embossing folder BUT it does help it not get smashed down so easy!!

The wrenches were made with a 1-1/4" circle punch and the Word Window punch.  The other end of the wrench was made with a 1/2" circle and a 7/8" circle.  Of course, punch your 1/2" circle first and then center it under the 7/8" punch. 

Happy Father's Day was stamped in black from the Teeny Tiny Wishes set.  The card and word layers were fauxed stitched with a black fine tip pen.

Masculine Pedestal Pillow Box

With Father's Day fast approaching, we thought it was the perfect time to redo our Pedestal Pillow Box and show you a fun way to "do-it-up" for the guy in your life.

 
We actually created a collar and tie to fit on the box.  Of course, you could leave off the tie and just add buttons down the front.

 
As you can see from this side view, this pillow box actually stands on its own.  You can purchase this tutorial for only $3.95 by going here or the link provided at the start of this post.  Don't forget, you can easily turn this into a lady's blouse by making the collar lacey and adding fun buttons, flowers, or a small embellished pocket.

Freebie Friday - Gift Bag & Belly Band

 

What a great way to give a small gift or gift card.  See how easy and fun these can be.

Let's get started!  Gather your supplies:  Real Red and Vanilla card stock, October Afternoon's Modern Homemaker patterned paper, punches, lunch sack. 

 
First cut your card stock 5-1/4" x 8-1/2".  Score at 3" and 6-1/2".  Cut the TOP off the lunch sack at 2-3/4".  (Save the bottom of the bag for another project.)

 
Next, if you want to create a fun scalloped edge for your gift bag, now is the time to do that.  Glue the lunch bag top on to the card stock.  (Make sure to glue it all the way down to the scored line so your "gift" cannot fall out.)   It is easiest to apply the glue to the back of the brown bag and glue it into place first.

 
Now you apply some glue to the front of the brown bag and lay the card stock over it to adhere.

 
Here is what it will look like at this stage.  If you don't want to create a belly band closure, you could use velcro or punch holes and string through ribbon.

 
Now, let's create the belly band closure.  Our card stock band is 2" x 8-1/2" and the patterned paper is 1-3/4" x 8-1/2".  You will need to decide what you are going to put in your bag so you will know how tight or loose to make the belly band.  If you have something very thick, you may have to increase the 8-1/2" length.  To fit the bag with a gift card or money, we folded our band at 2-1/2" from both ends.   

 

To embellish the band, you can always add a sentiment (Happy Birthday, Congrats, etc.) but we chose to create a flower.  We punched three scallop circles, wadded them up and layered them together.  We did create "petals" by cutting in part way on the top scallop.  
We used one of the Epiphany Studio Tools and clear bubble caps to create our coordinating center.

 
Fill it with treats, gift card or money and slide on your belly band!
