Melissa Rodgers and Gayla O’Dell ……. We were both Stampin’ Up demonstrators when we met in 2002. Since then we have been to many stamp conventions, late night stamp gatherings, lots and lots of swaps, and that just gets us started on the stamping side. Melissa has moved to Colorado and back and expanded her family (see her story) and Gayla has been to California and back. So you can probably already see where the influence in some of our stamps comes from; the love of the mountains, the ocean and the outdoors. We both also found that we were very influenced by our grandmas growing up which probably explains the vintage-style flair seen in our stamps and card samples. Our best seller, the mason jar, would be one such example and have enjoyed making jam together for Christmas. We have loved to stamp and craft for years and really wanted to design a line of stamps just the way we wanted them…doesn’t that sound familiar? We would find a stamp we liked except for we wished it had this, or what if we added this…..and so the Two Paper Divas stamp line was created. We really like the fact that we don’t have the same style but work so well together. And in most cases, we balance each other’s strengths and weaknesses which works well in business. Now, we just need more time to create all those “we want to add this,” stamp sets but that is a whole different story.
Melissa’s story… Hi, I’m Melissa, I’m married to a wonderful man that supports and encourages my creative habits and together we have 7 beautiful children, 11 grandchildren and one due to arrive just before Thanksgiving. I have a variety of other “M” names. My children call me Mother, Ma, Mom, my beautiful grandchildren call me Mimi and my friends call me Mel. I’m passionate about my family and enjoy spending as much time with them as possible. We are an outdoorsy kind of family and LOVE, swimming, camping, fishing, farming, golfing, four wheeling (actually anything with a motor), gardening, hiking in the mountains and just about anything outside. But, I am also a crafter and realized it very early on in my life. Ok, so my mom actually realized it and always said I was “quite the little crafter.” I love to create things that involve stamping, ink and paper. I’ve taught stamping for over 20 years and enjoy the feeling I get seeing the expression on someone’s face when they create a project for the first time. I truly believe this is my calling. I do also crave order and want things to have a place. I love to organize my craft room and used to spend hours organizing my room as a kid. Creating order in my home brings me peace.
Gayla’s story…. Don’t panic as it really isn’t my life story but just a brief trip on how I got here. Born and raised a Kansas girl – go Jayhawks! – but I love the ocean and am really starting to despise the cold weather! I have always loved arts and crafts starting with coloring books and paper dolls – I still love to cut out things! My grandma taught me to crochet and I did everything from macramé to stained glass. I also love walking, gardening, the beach, scuba diving, cooking and reading. I’m always trying new recipesandmy Kindle is loaded and ready for the beach. My husband and I escape to the beach for a long weekend as often as we can just to soak upocean’s energy. We also love sports – college and professional. KU Jayhawks, KC Royals and KC Chiefs are a few favorites but we do follow others! I started stamping in 1989 when I lived in California and found Stampa Barbara. My husband and I visited that store every weekend for months! (am I lucky) When we moved back to Kansas, there really weren’t any stamp stores like I was used to so I joined Stampin’ Up as a way to meet other stampers. I really did meet a lot of great people and made some great friends and by now you know that is how Melissa and I met.
