This week's Freebie Friday has been around awhile but we are starting to realize there are so many newbies that we need to share some of the "old" stuff.  

This tutorial comes just in time to make some Easter goodie bags.  These would be really cute full of Easter grass and candy.

 

This bag was made with fun patterned paper and embellished with seam binding ribbon and punches.  Of course, you can create your own style just by changing papers and embellishments.

Freebie Friday - Nugget Purse

We have actually made these purses a bunch but it seems to be a new thing for some of you.  So, today we are giving you printer-friendly copy so that you can have directions and measurements along with a diagram.

These little purses are so much fun for a girl's birthday party, bridal shower, party favors, etc.  You could even change the look and make them look like diaper bags.

You can see from the photo above, that two nuggets fit perfectly in this purse.  You can embellish the front of these with as much or as little as you desire.  This one has lots of fun ribbon, pearls and bling.

Freebie Friday - Candy Box

With Valentine's Day just around the corner - actually, next week; we definitely think "chocolate."  How cute is this box with fun patterned paper, hearts and a felt flower.

These eight nuggets fit perfectly in this candy box.  Of course, there are a few other things you could fit in here as well but we LOVE nuggets.

Freebie Friday - Christmas Tree

We loved the "stacked" pumpkin project so much that we decided to stack the accordion medallions to create trees. If you need the directions to create the accordion medallions, please click here.

Be sure to look to the end for a vintage-look cream tree.

 

Of course, the number of medallions you need will depend on how tall you want to make your tree.  This tree is about 7-8 inches tall. 

Here are the sizes we used for each medallion - 3/4", 1", 1-1/8", 1-1/2" and 1-3/4" widths and they all are 12" long.  The tree trunks are spools.  You can either paint, stain or glitter the bases.

Create all your medallions so that you can stack and glue all of them.  We used a hot glue gun just as we did on the pumpkin.

Here is a close-up of the top of the tree.  The bow is made of red seam binding and embellished with rusted bells, punched greenery and a small bird.

Look at how an all cream or white tree turned out.  The top was made with white seam binding ribbon, tinsel and a glittered star.  All the edges were sponged and some glitter was added.

Freebie Friday - Pop-up Stage card

How cute is this winter-themed pop-up card?  You can use any theme or season for your project.  Just follow these step-by-step instructions and create one of your own. This is one that Melissa did recently at Remember This Remember That for her Inter-active/Diorama card class.

You will need the following supplies:

• Paper cutter and Scor-pal
• Bone folder
• Sticky Strip or Scor-tape
• Foam squares (Dimensionals / pop dots)
• Scissors
• Stamps, ink, card stock and patterned paper
• Copics, glitter and ribbon

First, cut card stock - 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and fold in half for your card.  Cut 2 pieces of patterned paper 5-3/8" x 4-1/8", one for the front of your card and one for the inside.

Next cut one piece 5-1/2" x 5" for the stage.  On the 5" side score at 1/2", 4" and 4-1/2". Crease well on all score lines.

Stamp, color and cut out all the pieces for your card.  Tear three pieces of white card stock for your snow. Glitter all.

Add Scor-tape along 1/2" and 4-1/2"  score lines on stage piece.

Leaving wrong side up, align edge of stage to card center, end with single 1/2" score line. Fold other end at 4" score and tuck under, hold in place.  Lay out snow man and snow where you want them.  Be sure to flip pieces forward to make sure they don't go beyond the front edge of your card.  Mark stage with a pencil along bottom of each piece, approximately 1/2" long.

On each of the marks, use your paper cutter or craft knife to cut slots slightly longer than 1/2".

Next remove backing from tape.  Fold card stock under at 4" score line.  Align other end of stage at center of the card and press to adhere to the card base.  Then close the card and press down to adhere tape.

Next cut six 1/2" x 2" pieces of card stock for pop up tabs.  Score each one at 1/2".  Add adhesive to tabs. Crease well along score line.

Remove backing from adhesive and carefully slip tabs through slots with adhesive facing down and tab pointing towards the card back.  Hold card open at 90 degree angle and adhere tab straight up and down to the base of your card.

Attach stamped images and snow banks to tabs using foam squares.  You will need to trim down the tabs to fit your snow mounds so that they don't stick up past the edge of your torn edges.  Each snow mound will have two tabs and one for the snowman.

Add snow and glitter.  Tear and glitter one more piece of card stock for the front of stage.

Add snowflakes to the back of your card.  Place a small rhinestone in the center of the large snowflake.

Adhere your ribbon and bow to the front of your card. 

Tie on jingle bell and you are done!

Freebie Friday - Christmas Diorama Card

Good morning!  Today we are sharing instructions on how to create a scene in a fun 3-D card.  This particular sample is one that will be done in an upcoming class at Remember This Remember That.

 First gather your supplies:

• Card stock
• Patterned Paper - Crate Paper
• Sticky Strip or Scor-tape
• Paper trimmer and scoring tool
• A die or punch - we used a scallop oval die
• Distress inks - Vintage Photo, Moss and Pomegranate
• Embellishments - Deer & Star of David dies from Memory Box, twine, a button, glitter and bling

Next cut your card stock and patterned papers.

• Cut two pieces of card stock and coordinating patterned papers to 8.5" x 3" for front and back covers
• Cut one piece of card stock and coordinating patterned paper to 6.5" x 3" for the middle panel

Score 8.5" x 3" pieces of card stock and patterned paper 2" from each short side.

Score the 6.5" x 3" (middle panels) at 1" from each short side.

Glue patterned papers to card stock and fold well on scored lines.

Next, using a punch or die cut the center out of the front and middle sections.

Here is what your three panels should look like.  Fold the side pieces to the back on both the front and middle sections.  Fold them up on the back panel. Sponge all the edges.

Add sticky strip to to the middle and front sections as shown below.

Next stamp, cut and sponge your images for the card. Tear pieces of card stock to form snow mounds.  Add glue and glitter.

Starting with the back panel add trees and then snow.  First one side and then the other using foam squares to pop it up.  We also added a star to this section.

For the middle add the buck to the back panel.

Adhere the doe and fawn to the front of the middle section.  Add more snow.

Next finish the front panel by adding trees and more snow.

Let's put the card together - removing the sticky strip red liner from the tape (or you can use score tape) on the middle panel - align card edges and score lines to adhere back and middle panels together on both sides.

It should look like this.

Next removing the red liner on the sticky strip on the front cover. Attach the front cover to the back cover.  It will look like this.

Add additional embellishments to the front cover.

Freebie Friday - Paper Strip Pumpkin

Today we are sharing several ideas using this same step-by-step tutorial.   We've used this tutorial for Halloween, fall and a Christmas project.  Check out more samples at the end of the post.

To create this pumpkin project, first gather your supplies.  We used the "fall"  stamp from our brand new clear stamp set called Happy Harvest. You can purchase it by clicking HERE.  We cut leaves out of felt, used papers from Authentique, buttons, brads, Vintage Photo ink, a homemade vintage tag, a circle punch, ribbon and twine.

First cut 10 strips of paper 3/4" x 4".  You've probably seen these made using strips that are 1/2" but we liked them a little closer together so we cut these two samples at 3/4".  The Christmas ornament at the end of the post was made using 1/2" wide strips so you can decide which you prefer.

Sponge the edges of your paper strips.  Stamp and sponge the tag. Cut your leaves.  Set these aside until you are ready to embellish your project.

Stack your paper strips and then using a hole punch (we decided the Crop-a-dile worked best) punch a hole in both ends.  Insert your brads. Now, this paper from Authentique is quite a bit heavier/thicker so we used extra long brads which allowed for the paper to spread apart easier. 

Carefully spread apart the strips. Another little secret we found to be helpful was to bend the stack of papers back and forth breaking down the fibers a little bit.  This also made them more pliable and easier to shape.

We found that it helped the pumpkin to sit better and not want to tip over (due to the brad on the bottom) by adding a circle to the bottom.  We punched a 1-3/8" circle out of the same paper and hot glued it to the bottom of the pumpkin.

 See, much better.  :)  Now you are ready to decorate the top.  We tied ribbon, added a button with twine and then hot glued it all to the top of the pumpkin.

Add a little bling to your tag and tie it around the ribbons and there you have it!

For the Halloween one we used a medallion on the bottom, added a spider, another medallion out of crepe paper, some glitter and tinsel.

The Christmas ornament is done the same way only using the 1/2" strips of paper. Beads and tinsel were used to adorn it!

Freebie Friday - Candy Pencil

We promised one more fun school-themed idea.  We originally saw this candy pencil about three years ago and had never taken the time to make one.  We did and thought you would enjoy it too!  Notice we did another sample of last week's Freebie Friday.  In case you missed it, just click here.

To make the candy pencil, follow the instructions below.

Gather your supplies - card stock, foil, Rolos, Hershey Kiss, scoring tools, 7/8" circle punch

 

We cut a yellow piece of card stock 3-1/2" x 4-1/2" and scored it every 1/4", lengthwise.

Cut a piece of pink card stock (for the eraser) 1/2" x 3-1/2" and a piece of foil (regular kitchen foil) 1/2" x 3-1/2" as well. Glue the pink strip to the top of the yellow scored piece.  We attached these on the back side.  

Turn the pencil base to the front side and attach the small foil strip between the yellow and pink pieces.  This is the silver metal piece at the top of a pencil. 

Next add sticky strip to one side of the pencil cover and wrap it tightly around your rolo candy until the sides meet. 

Glue the small pink circle to make the eraser end of our pencil.  We used a 7/8" circle punch.

Using a glue dot or liquid adhesive (we used Tombow) glue the lead (Hershey kiss) to the other end of your pencil.

Freebie Friday - Post it Note Holder

As promised, today's Freebie Friday is the directions for yesterday's post it note holder.  These are quick, fun and very easy to embellish for whatever the occasion.  Today's holder uses our new Back to School digital stamp set.

 Gather your supplies:  card stock, patterned paper, stamps, punches, embellishments, adhesive

The card stock base (we used vanilla) measures 3-1/4" x 8" and is scored at 3-1/4", 3-3/4", 4-1/4"

 

Fold the holder on the center fold (scored) line and then you need to measure in 1" from each end and mark with a pencil.  You will cut on these two marks.  This creates the "pop up" for your pen.

 

You can see the "pop up" once the holder is turned over, below.

Before you glue the holder together, we found it easiest to embellish the front cover while it is still flat.  You can use whatever you like but we used a school theme since school started here.  We used our new digital Back to School set.  If you are interested in this set, please see the details at the end of this post.

Once you have everything on the front, add glue to the two "strips" on the sides of the pop-up.

We did sponge everything.  You can now add the post it note to the inside. 

Here are a few tips for embellishing the RSVP pens; just in case you have never done this.  Cut a strip of the patterned paper 3/4" x 3-1/2".  Take out the inside ink cartridge and roll the paper around it really well.  The more you roll it, the easier it slides into the barrel of the pen.

Roll the paper around the cartridge and slide into the barrel.  Put the end back on and you have a coordinating pen.  These are so fun to embellish for everything.

There you have it....a great coordinating gift for anyone.  Of course, you can always keep it for yourself!

Happy Earth Day!

In celebration of Earth Day, we wanted to share a great "up-cycle" or "re-purpose" idea with you.  We saw this idea at a specialty store in Lawrence, Kansas.  We loved the idea and we knew we could do it ourselves.

These "recycled" notebooks were selling for $15 - $25 each and being that we all are so "crafty", we made our own.  One of the things we loved so much is the versatility in choosing your theme.  Whatever the user loves, you can convert to this idea.  The notebook below is made from a Rice Krispies box of cereal....front and back.

And, then we created these.....

And, this one is really HOT! :)

To create these, all you need is a box, regular copy paper and binding.  For this specific notebook, we used a Zutter binding machine.  However, if you look at some of our other ideas, you will see that we used a binder clip, jumbo eyelets, and you could punch holes and tie together with jute, ribbon, etc.

As you can see, there is not just one way to make this work. Cut your front and back cover the same size.   If you are using something that you don't like the back, you can always substitute a plain piece of chipboard.  We then cut our copy paper down about 1/4" smaller than the covers. 

All that is left is the binding.  You can see that we used a binding machine.  If you don't have one, you could always punch three  holes and use book rings to hold it together.  That would also make it refillable.  If you chose that method you could also substitute notebook paper that already has the three holes.

 

We started looking in the refrigerator and cupboards for other "boxes" that might be fun -  soda, beer, brownie, cake mix - you know they come out with themed cookie and cake mixes for each holiday.  You could even use the lid off a popular name brand shoes box.

 It can be tough to come up with masculine ideas and we think you could use this idea for those "tough" guys gifts.  What kid wouldn't have fun with a Kraft mac and cheese notebook.  A great scout or 4-H project.   You can see we could go on and on! We hope you find some way to celebrate Earth Day and that we have given you some fun ideas.  Two Paper Divas - Melissa and Gayla
